State forestry, Mat-Su Borough offer free brush disposal sites to reduce human-caused fires
The drop-off sites were established in 2019 on a small scale. With funding assistance from the Division of Forestry and involvement of the Mat-Su Borough Department of Emergency Services and Department of Public Works this program will be available through 2022. Last year, more than 2,100 tons of spruce-beetle-infested brush was collected and disposed of at the designated drop-off sites.

Fairbanks Area Forestry to discuss Haystack fire breaks at Feb. 14 meeting
The two fire breaks, part of the Haystack Mountain Fuels Mitigation Project, are located along Washington Creek and Leuthold Drive, approximately 20 miles north of Fairbanks. The two fuel breaks would help protect more than 200 homes in multiple subdivisions.
