Fire
There are 153 active fires across the State. The following large fires are likely to affect air quality in the Outlook area over the coming days: Anderson Complex, Lost Horse Creek, McCoy, Pogo Mine, and Delta. Additional details on fires are available at AICC Fire Info. Any community adjacent to active fire may experience periods of degraded air quality so stay informed by visiting the Fire and Smoke Map.
Smoke
We will see an increase in easterly winds today and drier conditions, which will likely increase local smoke production some. Smoke settled in the Tanana River Valley overnight, notably between Fairbanks and Delta Junction, and will generally track west/northwest throughout the morning but increasing easterly winds will help lift surface smoke. Smoke from Canadian fires will continue to march all the way to the Bering but should generally stay north of Fairbanks and south of the North Slope. Periods of unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG) to unhealthy air quality are possible in the AM for Fairbanks and North Pole. Delta Junction will likely see moderate to USG conditions in the AM, with improvement throughout the day. Nenana can expect good air quality in the AM with easterly winds scouring smoke. Healy and areas south, including visitors to Denali, should enjoy moderate to good air quality for most of the day after smoke lifts this AM.
