Final Update for Lightning Start Fires, North of Fairbanks


Old Murphy Dome Rd Fire (#245) 

This lightning-caused fire, discovered on Monday night, was successfully held by firefighters at 0.3 acres. Firefighters worked overnight on Monday and throughout the day on Tuesday to ensure the suppression of this fire. Fairbanks Area Helitack and engines responded, along with air attack and smokejumpers. Resources will demobilize on Wednesday afternoon. 

Aggie Creek Fire (#246) 

This small lighting fire was found on the flight en route to the Old Murphy Dome Rd Fire. Due to the location, full suppression actions were taken quickly. This fire was suppressed at 0.1 acres, and all resources were demobilized on Tuesday afternoon. 

Washington Creek Fire (#247) 

A reconnaissance flight of the area was conducted on Tuesday and there was no fire found in the area of the previously reported fire. The smoke that was reported was found to be smoke from the fires out near Tolovana Hot springs, that are under monitor status.

Little Gold Stream Creek Fire (#264) 

A private citizen reported a small smoke plume on the south side of the Parks Highway at mile marker 321. DOF Fairbanks Area helitack, engines, smokejumpers, and a Nenana VFD engine responded. The fire was 0.25 acres burning in white spruce and mixed hardwoods. The initial attack firefighters worked throughout the night suppressing the incident. The fire is contained and controlled and resources will be demobilized later this afternoon.  

Fires #245, #246, and #264 will be placed into monitor status. There will be no more updates for these fires unless there is a significant change in activity.  

The Fairbanks North Star Borough maintains the Level 2 “Be Set” evacuation status for the Chatanika River Corridor and Hayes Creek area as of Wednesday morning. Updates to any evacuation level changes will be shared by the borough.
