8:30 PM Update:
The Wabash Creek Fire is has now grown to an estimated at 53.7 acres, firefighters remain on the ground, focusing suppression efforts on the north side to prevent spread into dense black spruce.

5:00 PM Update:
The Wabash Fire was reported earlier today approximately 22 miles north of Mcgrath. Initial size up estimated it at 15 acres, burning in tundra and patchy black spruce, with 80-90% active perimeter and flame lengths reaching up to six feet.
Helitack firefighters responded quickly, landing on site and immediately began direct suppression efforts on the ground. The helicopter was reconfigured to support the operation with bucket drops, helping cool hotspots and slow the fires spread from the air.
The fire is being managed under a 100% suppression strategy, with crews working toward a rapid containment.
