Fire activity was minimal within the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172) yesterday. Cooler and wetter conditions are moving into the area starting today and are expected to continue through Wednesday. Containment levels increased on the Aggie Creek Fire to 5%and on the Himalaya Road Fire to 19%.

Fire activity was minimal within the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172), with hot spots popping up on the west side of Aggie Creek. More hot spots and smoke columns are expected tomorrow with another warm, dry day. There were two incursions into the Temporary Flight Restriction over these fires yesterday, which poses serious risks to firefighter and public safety.

Based on yesterday’s warmer temperatures, lower humidity, and the expectation of the same for today, increased smoke was seen, creating a moderate expectation of torching trees or a singular torching tree within the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172).

Rain fell over all three fires yesterday. Structure protection is complete in areas immediately threatened by the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172). Crews are nearing completion of indirect lines south of Aggie Creek Fire and the Mount Taylor Hotshot crew is assessing the feasibility of direct line construction along the fire’s southern perimeterwhile fire behavior is minimal. Structure assessments were completed yesterday along the Elliott Highway west of Obrien Fire, and a structure protection plan will be developed today.

Mop up and structure protection continues on the Himalaya Road Fire (#223), Aggie Creek Fire (#268) and Obrien Fire (#172). Firefighters completed an indirect masticator line on the Himalaya Road Fire yesterday. On the Aggie Creek Fire, crews have completed structure assessment and protection efforts along Himilaya Loop Road. Firefighters will wrap BLM Recreation shelters that are threatened by the Obrien Fire, to provide additional protection. All heat observed yesterday was well interior on all three fires.

On the Aggie Creek Fire, crews finished prepping structures on Himilaya Loop Road and are assessing structures to the south of the fire. Firefighters on the Obrien Fire finished laying hose around the BLM Recreation shelters. All three fires are responding to the warmer, dryer conditions as interior pockets of fuel are burning.
