Hay Fire – Alaska Wildland Fire Information

This shows a fuels break around Alaska Native Allotments. Both sides of the photo show tall spruce trees and in the middle is a flat grassy area. Having these wide breaks ready gives enhanced protection for the allotments. If needed, firefighters will plumb the break with sprinklers and hose lays.

Firefighters on the Lush Fire continue work to protect values at risk near Rampart

Areas of heat and visible smokes remain around the perimeter of the Lush Fire (#199) today. With the weather continuing into a warming and drying trend, more active fire behavior is anticipated.

Two firefighters are watering down a helipad to reduce debris for helicopter landing and take off. The helipad is an open gravel area next to the Yukon River. Behind the river are mountains. There is a small helicopter on the pad behind the firefighters. The firefighters are both wearing Nomex protective gear and have a hose stretched out from the river and are wetting the helipad.

Firefighters continue progress on Tanana Zone fires

On Friday, the Lush Fire (#199) experienced minimal fire activity with smoldering and creeping. Some smoke showed on portions of the fire, and there is heat along the perimeter. Weather yesterday was partly to mostly sunny and there was no precipitation over the fire area. There is a small chance for scattered showers through the weekend. With the warming and drying trend over the next couple of days, more active fire behavior is anticipated.

Firefighters continue work on the Lush Fire and others in the Tanana Zone

On Monday, the Lush Fire (#199) experienced limited fire perimeter growth with moderate fire behavior and isolated tree torching on the interior of the perimeter. Isolated areas of the fire received approximately 0.3” of rain yesterday.

Firefighters assigned to the Lush Fire (#199) continue working to protect structures and allotments on the north side of the Yukon River across from the community of Rampart, as the weather shifts to a cooler, wetter trend over the next few days.
