Two new fires reported along Chatanika River and Washington Creek north of Fairbanks

Three additional fires discovered north of Fairbanks for a total of five

11:15 PM Update – Firefighters are engaged on the Aggie Creek Fire (#246), Old Murphy Dome Road Fire (#245), and Washington Creek Fire (#247). With the posting of the map, this will be the last update of the evening. For more information and future updates visit AKFireInfo.com. 

10:45 PM Update – Four smokejumpers have deployed to the Aggie Creek Fire (#246). It is burning in mixed spruce and hardwoods on a ridge top north of Washington Creek, upstream from its confluence with Aggie Creek. This fire is 3.25 miles northwest of Himilaya Loop and is estimated to be .25 acre.  

The Old Murphy Dome Road Fire (#245) is on the north bank of the Chatanika River near river mile 68, 2.25 miles south of Himilaya Loop. It is estimated to be .25 acres. Helitack has deployed its firefighting crew members and has started bucket drops. Two, twin engine water scooping aircraft, CL-415, are also dropping water on the fire. Four smokejumpers were deployed to the fire. 

Air Attack discovered two more fires while surveying a third start farther west. Washington Creek Fire (#247) is also on the north side of Washington Creek, approximately 5.5 miles down stream from the confluence of Aggie and Washington creek. This fire is in the burned area of the 2022 Minto Lakes Fire. The two additional fires are north along the North Star Borough boundary on a ridge east of the Tolovana River, Slate Fire (#248) and Iver (#249).

9:30 PM Update — Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection firefighters are responding to a reported fire along the Chatanika River. Helitack reported the fire to be burning actively near river mile 68 threatening nearby cabins. As Helitack was surveying the scene they discovered an additional fire burning north of Washington Creek 3.25 miles northwest of Himilaya Loop. Fire Boss water scooping aircraft have been dispatched along with smokejumpers.
