The Funny River fire is a human caused fire that began in the afternoon of May 19th near a horse trail 5 miles east of Soldotna. The current fire size is 195,858 acres with no perimeter growth observed in the past few days. The wildfire remains contained in the north, west and southern perimeters near human habitation. A total of 28 personnel, two excavators and one helicopter are assigned to the fire.
Current Situation
No visible smokes along the perimeter were identified in reconnaissance flights. Fire resources will continue to repair suppression impacts of building fire lines. Excavator repair work continues on the western flank, pulling ground fuels back onto the fire line that was constructed 3 weeks ago. The wildfire is contained in all these areas.
Weather Outlook
A mix of clouds and sun this morning are observed here in Soldotna. The forecasted rain event did not materialize overnight. A high temperature of 55 and low of 40 degrees and winds will continue to be from the northeast direction.
