Firefighters secure 74% of the Ridgetop Fire (#117), while containment efforts continue on the Louise Creek Coal Seam Fire (#122)

Aided by cooler nighttime temperatures and an increase in humidity over the fire area, crews increased containment on the Ridgetop Fire to 74% overnight. The fire has consumed 250 acres and has experienced very little fire growth over the past few days. Today, firefighters with aviation support, will continue to mop up and patrol the fire area as they meet their objective of increasing containment over the next 24 hours which will allow them to release crews back to their home units. Fire engines and their crews will continue to provide structure protection near homes within the fire area.

Firefighters continue to safely construct and reinforce past fire containment lines on the 270 acre Lousie Creek Coal Seam Fire, 8 miles east of the Ridgetop Fire. Working with dozers, crews will spend the day constructing fire line and mopping up portions of the fire perimeter as they meet containment goals while providing for firefighter safety. Aviation resources will continue to support firefighters on the ground where needed.

The Parks Highway remains open to the public. The public is reminded to slow down and drive with caution in the fire area as firefighters and firefighting equipment will continue to be visible between mile marker 253 and 255 on the Parks Highway. Helicopters will support the firefighters on the ground as needed and will be visible to the public near the fire area.

The Temporary Flight Restriction is still active over the fire area. To view the current TFR in the area please visit https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html
