5:40PM UPDATE: Firefighters and air resources were able to stop the progression of the Piledriver Slough Fire. The fire was caused by a structure fire that spread to the wildland. There are traffic delays at mile 334 of the Richardson Highway as as crews, equipment and aviation resources are still present and working. Hazardous material was involved that produced noxious smoke. On the ground firefighters are waiting for this smoke to clear before engaging safely with the fire.
Firefighting aviation resources continue to work on suppression operations from the air. Please remember that areas with wildfires must be a No Drone Zone so that the helicopters, air tankers and aerial supervisors are able to coordinate an effective initial attack without an incursion into their airspace. If you fly, we can’t.
