Lake George Fire (#161) showing moderated fire behavior despite Red Flag Conditions in Delta area

1:30 PM UPDATE: The Lake George Fire (#161) is currently estimated at 38 acres. The perimeter has been mapped overnight from satellite imagery that was able to give a more accurate measurement. Fire activity has remained moderate and the fire edges were successfully cooled by firefighting aircraft. Ground crews are continuing to be shuttled into the fire area to continue their work to gain containment on the fire.

Delta Area is experiencing Red Flag conditions from noon to midnight due to high winds. Burn permits are also suspended due to the Red Flag warning. Please check https://dnr.alaska.gov/burn/fireareas/fairbanks or call the burn permit hotline 907-451-2631 for the most current updates.

Division of Forestry and Fire Protection personnel and boats were utilized today in search and rescue activities on the river near the fire area for a capsized canoe. Two civilians were reported to be stranded on the Tanana river in the area. The civilians were located by fire personnel and rescued off the river. They are currently being assessed and returned to Fairbanks.

There are no road impacts at this time for the Alaska Highway, although there will be fire apparatus operating on the road between Delta and Dot Lake. Please be cautious of fire operations being conducted near the roadway. 

There is a Temporary Flight Restriction in place over the Lake George Fire area. This TFR extends to a five mile radius surrounding the fire area and includes most of Lake George. There was a reported TFR intrusion in the area. We want to remind people that if planes or drones are reported inside the TFR, firefighting aircraft must land for their safety. Please remember, If you fly, we can’t.
