Wednesday’s hotter temperatures brought active fire behavior in multiple areas including on McCoy Creek, Anderson Complex, and the fires north of Old Murphy Dome Road in Fairbanks. Additional resources are being mobilized to the area with sustained hot, dry weather in the forecast including a Type 2 Incident Management Team to manage the group of fires north of Fairbanks. 54,594 acres have burned statewide. There are currently 140 active fires: 55 in critical or full protection and 85 in limited management zones.


HIGHLIGHTED FIRE ACTIVITY
Lost Horse Creek (#296) – [1,900 acres] North of Old Murphy Dome Road, 3.5 miles east of Mile 18 Elliot Highway. Since Tuesday retardant tankers, two Super Scoopers, Fire Bosses, along with aerial supervision have worked to slow its growth. The fire significantly picked up Wednesday afternoon and firefighters from Fairbanks Area DOF and nearby fires responded to the Haystack subdivision to begin assessing structure protection needs. Fairbanks North Star Borough issued a GO! evacuation notice for Upper Haystack area. (20 personnel)
McCoy Creek (#201) – [5,000 acres] River mile 29, Salcha River. Fire growth is moving away from the Salcha River and properties along its corridor. Crews are making good progress with hose lay, saw line, and cabin protection along the river. Aviation continues to protect and assist firefighters on the ground. Evacuation levels remain in place from the Fairbanks North Star Borough. (88 personnel)
Anderson Complex (#899) – [8,000+ acres] Anderson-Clear area. The Teklanika River Fire continues to be active in the afternoons. Resources continue to assess values at risk and implement structure protection. Great Basin 3 Incident Management Team operations responded to a new fire (#325) in the. Evacuation levels remain in place from the Denali Borough. (211 personnel)
Mosquito Creek (#290) – [35 acres] 5 miles east of Harding Lake. Crews continue furthering suppression efforts with assistance from aviation resources. (25 personnel)
Standard Creek (#279) – [7+ acres] 7 miles west of Fairbanks. Personnel completed saw line hose lay around the fire. A Type 4 Incident Commander, crew will be arriving today.(8 personnel)
Pogo Mine Road (#191) – [15,838 acres] 9 miles down Pogo Road. Tanana Chiefs Crew and DOF personnel continue working to protect Pogo Mine Road, the Pogo Gold Mine, Quartz Lake, and timber. (25 personnel)
Elliott Group – [69 acres] North of Old Murphy Dome Road, Fairbanks. Firefighters continue working to further suppression efforts on the Our Creek (#271), Sargent Creek (#255), Olnes Pond (#250), and Treasure Creek (#265) fires. (88 personnel)
