Smoke Outlook for Aug. 10-11

Fire

There are 153 active fires across the State. The following large fires are likely to affect air quality in the Outlook area over the coming days: Anderson Complex, Lost Horse Creek, McCoy, Pogo Mine, and Delta. Additional details on fires are available at AICC Fire Info. Any community adjacent to active fire may experience periods of degraded air quality so stay informed by visiting the Fire and Smoke Map.

Smoke

Smoke production should be slightly moderated today with favorable overnight relative humidity recoveries and chances for scattered showers for most of the Outlook area. Smoke continues to settle in the Tanana River Valley overnight and will generally track north throughout the day. Smoke from Canadian fires will continue to track into the Yukon Flats area by late morning. Periods of Unhealthy air quality are likely in the AM for Fairbanks and North Pole, with slightly better conditions expected late afternoon. Delta Junction will likely see Moderate conditions most of the day, with wind and showers providing some improvement. Nenana can expect Unhealthy air quality in the AM with some clearing in the afternoon. Healy and areas south, including visitors to Denali, should enjoy Moderate to Good air quality for most of the day after smoke lifts this AM.
