Fire
There are 152 active fires across the State. The following large fires are likely to affect air quality in the Outlook area over the coming days: Anderson Complex, Lost Horse Creek, McCoy, Pogo Mine, and Delta. Additional details on fires are available at AICC Fire Info. Any community adjacent to active fire may experience periods of degraded air quality so stay informed by visiting the Fire and Smoke Map.
Smoke
We are starting to see the result of decreased local smoke production this AM and ground sensors are reporting less concentrated smoke in most of the Outlook area. Smoke settled in the Tanana River Valley overnight, notably between Fairbanks and Delta Junction, and will generally track northeast throughout the day. Smoke from Canadian fires will continue to track into the Yukon Flats area by late morning but should generally stay north of Fairbanks. Periods of unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG) to unhealthy air quality are possible in the AM for Fairbanks and North Pole, with general improvement throughout the day. Delta Junction and Nenana will likely see moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups (USG) conditions in the AM, with improvement throughout the day. Healy and areas south, including visitors to Denali, should enjoy moderate to mood air quality after smoke lifts this AM. Increasing easterly winds on Saturday will transport more Canadian smoke into the Yukon Flats and areas north of Fairbanks.
