Quartz Lake public use cabin burns, spreads to wildlands

5:00 PM — Fire engines responding from Delta Junction Fire Department and U.S. Army Garrison Fort Greely Fire Division knocked down the flames of the cabin as DOF firefighters controlled the fire spread with a hose lay. A rain shower over the fire assisted in suppression efforts. Firefighters declared the fire contained and controlled after ensuring all hotspots were extinguished. The fire will be placed into monitor status.

The cabin was not occupied at the time of the fire. It is unknown at this time how the fire started.  

This will be the last update today for the Quartz Lake Fire (#092).

4:00 PM — Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection Delta Area firefighters are responding to a wildland fire at Quartz Lake on Monday afternoon. Fairbanks Emergency Communications Center notified DOF that the Quartz Lake Public Use Cabin in the parking lot was burning. Firefighters arriving on scene reported the cabin was fully involved and spreading into the surrounding wildland. The fire was spreading into black spruce and was estimated to be .25 acres. Firefighters were setting up a hose lay.
