As of 2 p.m. Monday, there were 162 active wildfires statewide with two new starts in the past 24 hours. So far, 326 fires have burned 540,918 acres across Alaska. Brief updates are provided for Monday’s staffed fires within the BLM Alaska Fire Service protection area.

Deep (#213) – A reconnaissance flight Sunday evening determined that the fire still has some interior heat and smoldering edges, but it remains in its current footprint. As of Monday, the BLM Mooseheart and K River contract crews are focused on the demobilization of equipment and firefighters. Some fire staff and the Crow Helitack crew will remain on the fire to continue monitoring efforts. Crews continued to improve existing lines to increase accessibility and defensibility of structures and allotments near the community of Lake Minchumina. The fire is 6 miles southwest of the community. It is estimated at 16,744 acres with 49 people assigned.

Naluk (#209) – As of Monday, the fire is contained and will be monitored. Firefighters moved all their equipment to Kiana on Sunday for backhaul. The fire is about 20 miles north of Selawik in the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge and is estimated at 15,338 acres. This will be the last update for the fire, unless conditions change.

Main (#240) – Firefighters assigned near Ruby continued to assess and protect structures and allotments on Monday. The BLM Type 2 Contract Clear Water Crew – with firefighters from St. Mary’s, Mountain Village, Marshall, and Pilot Station – was tasked with assessing and protecting structures around Ruby. The BLM Alaska Fire Service Midnight Sun Hotshots are nearing completion of a fuel break just south of Ruby. Rifle Helitack assessed Native allotments, including one structure to the west of the fire, to determine any impacts and identify possible steps to protect those allotments and the structure. The fire is 7 miles southwest of Ruby. It is 29,500 acres with 83 people assigned.
