Firefighters continue to make progress toward objectives and demobilize across DOF’s Northern Region 

This is a report on fires occurring in Division of Alaska Forestry & Fire Protection northern protection areas, generally north of the Alaska Range. These include the DOF Prevention areas of Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok.  

Rain showers will decrease on Monday across the region as temperatures tick up a few degrees. Light rain will move into the Central Interior and the Dalton Highway Corridor to Upper Koyukuk but Tuesday morning. Temperatures will begin to return to seasonal norms of the mid 70s over the next two days and minimum relative humidities will drop into the 30s. 

There will be no regional smoke outlook unless fire activity increases.

Two fires in the DOF Northern Region remained staffed on Sunday, July 7. 

Shaw Creek Dome Fire (#326) – located 19.25 miles northeast of Big Delta in a full response area. The fire is estimated to be 14.4 acres. Crews performed grids on Sunday and found no heat or smoke. The fire was called contained and controlled by end of shift Sunday and all resources were demobilized. This will be the last report on Shaw Creek Dome Fire #326.  

Gold King Creek Fire (#276) – 46 miles south of Fairbanks in a limited response area. Firefighters worked to construct indirect fire line on Sunday, this work will be ongoing on Monday. The fire experienced minimal growth. There are currently 27 personnel assigned to fire #276.  A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place over the Gold King Creek Fire for the safe operation of firefighting aircraft. Pilots should check here, https://tfr.faa.gov/, before flying in the area.
