Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) White Mountain Type 2 Initial Attack Crew worked into the evening Tuesday securing the edge of the Flat Creek Fire (#168). Located approximately two miles north of Mile 24 Chena Hot Springs Road, the lightning caused fire is estimated to be 1.8-acres.
The crew will spend Wednesday extinguishing hotspots to improve their containment of the fire. A helicopter has been requested to deliver a sling load of equipment and supplies. Once that is completed the helicopter will reconfigure for bucket operations. The interior of the fire is still smoldering and producing smoke. With the support of bucket drops, firefighters on the ground will extinguish all of the areas still burning. White Mountain will remain in the fire until it is out.

The Fairbanks North Star Borough initiated a Level 1 READY notice for residents in the Two Rivers and Pleasant Valley areas, Mile Post 18 – 27 of the Chena Hot Springs Road. Ready means residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area and monitor emergency services’ websites and local media outlets for information.
