Salcha River Fire and Marshall Mountain Fire burn close together near the Salcha River

Two lightning-caused fires are burning near each other 5 miles northwest of River Mile 46 on the Salcha River. The Salcha River Fire (#197) is estimated at 25 acres and the Marshall Mountain Fire (#193) estimated at 40 acres, are both located at the northern edge of the 13,000-acre 2022 Yukon Creek Fire burned area.

Both fires are active and are expected to grow closer together as burning continues. The fires are burning in black spruce and tundra.

A reconnaissance helicopter landed and left Fairbanks Helitack to clear brush and establish defensible space around the nearest cabin.

Fairbanks North Star Borough Emergency Operations issued a level 1 ‘Ready’ evacuation near river miles 45-52 of the Salcha River.
