Crews cutting sawline around Billy Creek Fire

The Billy Creek Fire (#189) burning on the north side of the Tanana River about 5.5 miles northwest of Dot Lake is estimated to be 10.3 acres. The Pioneer Peak Hotshots and 10 members of the Tanana Chiefs Type 2 Initial Attack Alpha Squad were shuttled to the fire Wednesday evening. They reported Thursday morning the retardant was holding the fire from spreading. The crews will start cutting a sawline along the fire’s edge and building hose lays as they progress. The 12 smokejumpers deployed to the fire during the initial attack will demobilize from the fire Thursday and return to their base. All other personnel and aviation assets will remain on the fire.
