Retardant and dozers work to slow growth of the Gilmore Trail Fire

As of Friday morning, the Gilmore Trail Fire is approximately 15 acres. Multiple loads of retardant were utilized Thursday to support suppression efforts. Currently smokejumpers, engine crews and dozers are working to contain the fire; one additional handcrew and water tender have been ordered for additional support. Fire managers are prioritizing completion of the dozer line to complete full containment of the fire.

The fire moderated overnight but is increasing in activity Friday morning. Multi engine water scooping aircraft are supporting firefighters on the ground as Air Attack coordinates ground and aircraft resources.

Fairbanks North Star Borough Emergency Operations’ managers and fire managers are evaluating evacuation status.

As fire activity increases across the Interior, resources are prioritized and shared amongst numerous emerging incidents.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.
