Firefighters make progress overnight on Johnson Fire

Update as of July 14 at 11:40 AM

The Johnson Fire is now contained and controlled.

Update as of July 14 at 9:30 AM

Six smokejumpers and a helitack crew remained on the Johnson Fire overnight to continue suppression efforts. The fire is currently estimated at 1.3 acres. The water drops by aircraft yesterday evening effectively cooled the fire, allowing progress to be made by the firefighters on the ground. Engines ordered to the fire were released due to access issues.

The fire is burning in an old fuel break with berm rows. Because the fire has gotten into the berms, it will require intensive, heavy mop-up (cooling the remaining heat) to reach containment. Today, additional firefighters will be inserted to continue suppression efforts.

This will be the final update for this fire unless additional significant fire activity occurs.
