Tlozhavun Fire (#448) – Located approximately 10 miles south of Fort Yukon, the Tlozhavun Fire remains at 21 acres and is now 50% contained. The fire continues to be managed under a full suppression strategy. crews continue to make significant progress as moderate fire behavior continues, characterized by smoldering, creeping and occasional tree torching.

A total of 35 personnel remain assigned, including smokejumpers, the Olympic National Park module, and the Council of Athabaskan Tribal Governments Type 2 crew.

Yesterday, crews mop upped, extinguishing heat, to a 10-foot depth along the fire perimeter. Today, mop up efforts will continue toward the target depth of 50 feet.

Polly Fire (#435 ) – The Polly Fire, located about 34 miles south of Eagle and 2 miles from milepost 108 on the Taylor Highway, remains estimated at 650 acres.

Fire activity has significantly decreased. One finger of the fire is still active, approximately 1.5 miles up the Steele Creek drainage, but the rest of the fire perimeter is quiet. The fire remains about 1 mile from the historic Steele Creek Roadhouse and 1.5 miles from the Taylor Highway, with no recent movement in that area. A two-track road continues to help check westward fire growth.

On Wednesday, smokejumpers completed structure protection around the nearby mine site. With point protection work complete, which included the placement of sprinkler systems to protect highly valued resources from wildfire, the fire will now be monitored. Smokejumpers will demobilize from the fire and become available for new fire assignments. Detection flights will continue to monitor the area.

This will be the final update on the Polly Fire unless conditions change or significant new activity occurs.
