The Alaska Division of Forestry Type 3 Short Team assumed command of both fires on the morning of July 19. As of 8:00 a.m. today, the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the Saint George Creek Fire has been lifted. Evacuation levels for the Bear Creek and Saint George Creek fires have been lowered. See below for further details.
Bear Creek Fire: Although fire activity remains minimal, firefighters will continue patrolling the area to monitor conditions and support community safety. Crews are now focused on remediation and repair work.
Saint George Creek Fire: Firefighting crews demobilized from the area yesterday. Helicopter monitoring will continue as needed, along the fire’s perimeter. The public may still observe intermittent smoke from unburned vegetation in the fire’s interior.

As of July 20, the Bear Creek Fire is 30,988 acres and 37% contained. The Saint George Creek Fire is 42,214 acres. Thirty nine personnel are on the incident.
WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Wetting rain is expected by Sunday, inhibiting active fire behavior. Alaska remains in its fire season and the public may see intermittent smoke in the burn areas until a season-ending rain event occurs.
