Tok, Alaska
Brush piles at the Tok Woody Debris Disposal Site will be burned on Thursday, Sept. 11, and Friday, Sept. 12. Smoke will be visible in the area.
Disposal sites provide residents with a safe place to dispose of woody debris, grass clippings, and leaves. This reduces the risk of escaped debris burns, lowers overall wildfire fuel loads, and helps protect homes by keeping them Firewise. Please note that inorganic materials such as treated wood, plastic, and garbage are not accepted. Find your nearest disposal site using our interactive map: https://bit.ly/4cf7wRw
On Sept. 8th, favorable weather conditions and good progress allowed the Mat-Su Crew to participate in a medical training led by State of Alaska EMT instructor and former Alaska Wildland Fire Medic Terry Solomon. The training covered tourniquets, head injuries, patient transportation, and proper communication procedures. These skills are essential for all crew members, should a fire medic be injured or unavailable.

Engines continue daily patrols, while the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection Mat-Su Crew and National Park Service Alaska Range Suppression Module continue pile burning along the perimeter of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire.

As of September 1st, burn permits are no longer required; however, safe burning statutes & regulations remain in effect and enforceable year-round. More information may be found here: https://forestry.alaska.gov/Assets/pdfs/burn/2019/statutes%20&%20regs%20combined%20for%20burn%20webpages.pdf
For Tok Area residents, if you are safely burning brush, please call Northern Forestry Dispatch Center at 907-451-2623 with your address so they know to expect smoke in the area. Carefully consider weather conditions before proceeding with your burn.
