Firefighters declared the Jade Fire (#285) near Ambler 90% contained on Sunday. The area received rain from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which limited firefighting efforts but also greatly reduced fire activity.

The Jade Fire is 70% contained, thanks to days of hard work by the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Midnight Sun Hotshots and the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments Type 2 Crew.

The USWFS Midnight Sun Hotshots and the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments Type 2 Crew achieved 40% containment on the Jade Fire (#285) near Ambler on Friday. Meanwhile, the Whakatna Fire (#306) near Galena was declared controlled.

A detection flight Sunday night located five new lightning-caused wildfires in the Galena Zone. The zone recorded nearly 1,600 lightning strikes Sunday following days of hot, dry conditions with little to no precipitation.
