Yesterday’s Fire Activity
The fire gained 2,500 acres yesterday in the southeast flank with active torching and a steady backing fire observed in the Bear Creek drainage despite increasing cloud cover and higher humidity. Smoke columns from burning pockets of unburned fuels well within the fire perimeter prompted calls from residents in Kasilof and Funny River. South of Torpedo Lake on the Kenai River, crews worked on a portion of the riverbank which was burning. Mop up and repair of suppression impacts, such as dozer lines continue.
Prevention Team Activity
Over the past two days, the prevention team have hosted over 50 residents at post fire workshops in Sterling, Funny River and Kasilof. The prevention team is at the Kenai River Festival this weekend to help homeowners! Three new public service announcements have been posted on the Firewise Alaska youtube channel.
