Wildland Fire Roundup

May 23, 2015 – Crews are continuing their suppression efforts on a number of fires around the state. As a result, active fires saw little to no growth since yesterday.

The Seaton Roadhouse Fire, burning near milepost 1234 of the Alaska Highway, remains at 338 acres. Firefighters are continuing construction of a dozer line north of the highway and crews are creating a saw line on the south side of the highway. The Alaska Highway remains open.

Crews are continuing mop up on the 556-acre Bolgen Creek Fire, burning between Central and Circle. Helicopters have been making bucket drops to put out hotspots.The fire is now 90 percent contained and several crews have been demobilized.

The seven-acre Woods Creek Fire near Boundary on the Top of the World Highway is now 100 percent contained, but continues to smolder and hazardous material from a structure within the perimeter continues to burn. Traffic on the Top of the World Highway is not affected.

The 61-acre Palmer Creek fire within the Chugach National Forest has been contained and is being monitored.
