Smoke impacting air quality

3:35 p.m. – As the number of wildfires continues to increase throughout the state of Alaska, air quality has become a major issue and can pose a serious health threat. Smoke can hurt your eyes, irritate your respiratory system, and worsen chronic heart and lung diseases. We are encouraging people to visit the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation-Division of Air Quality (DEC) website as it is an excellent source of information for many smoke related issues. Please visit:

https://dec.alaska.gov/air/smoke_qa.htm#STATUS6

DEC advises people with respiratory illness or heart disease, the elderly and children, to avoid exposure to smoke. When in areas of smoke, avoid outdoor activities or physical exertion.
