Smokejumpers, helicopter continue to work on Eagle Fire burning in steep terrain

Smokejumpers and a helicopter will continue work on the Eagle Fire (#355) burning on the Yukon River opposite of Eagle Village. This lightning-caused fire started on June 23 and is estimated at 67 acres including a spot fire. It is considered 15 percent contained. Two 20-person hand crews from the Lower 48 will mobilize to the fire. Personnel from the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Park will help shuttle the crews across river where the fire is burning in patches of white spruce in steep, rocky terrain next to the Yukon River. One crew will work on the main fire while the other will work on a 5-acre spot fire.
