Mop up continues on the Caribou Creek Fire north of Two Rivers

Redding Fire Crew Arrives in Fairbanks

Crews are making good progress as they mop up the 310-acre Caribou Creek Fire (#255), burning north of Chena Hot Springs Road near the community of Two Rivers. Containment remains at 65 percent.  The Redding Type 2 Initial Attack crew began work on the fire today. Firefighters have placed hose line around the entire four-and-a -half-mile perimeter and are focused on putting out hotspots on the east and west flanks of the fire.  The hot weather is causing interior pockets of unburned vegetation to flare up, causing potential spotting issues beyond containment lines.  Aircraft and lookouts on the ground are keeping watch for any spot fires. The Caribou Creek Fire was started by lightning on June 16.
