Shovel Creek Fire:Evacuation Level Reduction Update-July 12

Evacuation Levels Reduced

Firefighters have successfully connected line from Old Murphy Dome Rd to the Chatanika River. As mop up continues along the fire perimeter coupled with higher humidity and rain, the Pacific Northwest Team 2, managing the fire, has recommended that the Fairbanks North Star Borough reduce evacuation levels.

The neighborhoods that have previously been in LEVEL 2 (Set), including McCloud, Martin and Perfect Perch are being reduced to LEVEL 1 (Ready). The neighborhoods that have previously been in LEVEL 1 (Ready) including the Chatanika River corridor, Drouin, Hardluck, Moose Mountain, Coyote Jones, Hattie Creek, Lincoln Creek, Murphy and Vancouver neighborhoods will no longer be in an evacuation zone.

While the evacuation levels have been lowered in the neighborhoods, the risk to both firefighter and public safety remains our number one priority. Firefighting and residential traffic will continue in the area. Please drive with headlights on and reduce speeds.

Evacuation Levels as of 1:00 PM on July 12, 2019:

  • LEVEL 1 (READY) – McCloud, Martin and Perfect Perch neighborhoods
  • LEVEL 2 (SET) – (None)
  • LEVEL 3 (GO) – (None)
