Disaster Assistance Info for people affected by the McKinley Fire

Below is a brief summary of agencies providing information and services to assist people affected by the #McKinleyFire.

Team Rubicon can provide assistance with debris removal and clean up. Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. 360-975-7944 www.teamrubiconusa.org

State of Alaska Homeland Security Disaster Assistance. For individuals and families with damaged primary residences or essential personal property lost in 2019 Mat-Su fires. Register online at ready.alaska.gov/

Alaska Red Cross

Red Cross caseworkers will be available from Sept. 9 through Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide recovery planning services for those whose homes were destroyed by the fire. Red Cross caseworkers can be reached at 907-764-2407.

Emergency relief supplies like water, masks, storage totes, tarps, trash bags, shovels, rakes, brooms, gloves, blankets and personal hygiene items will also be available as needed throughout the affected areas. Those still in need of supplies can call the Red Cross office in Wasilla at 907-357-6060.

Red Cross health and mental health professionals will continue to provide emotional support, first aid, and health and mental health services on an as-needed basis, to care for and support residents as they work through the effects of this disaster. Our health and mental health teams will be on the ground in the affected neighborhoods to visit with residents this weekend, Sept. 7 and 8. After Sept. 8, Red Cross disaster health and mental health volunteers can be reached by calling the Red Cross recovery hotline at 907-764-2407.

The Parks Highway remains open through the burned area with a speed limit of 45 mph. Be prepared to stop in this zone where crews and equipment continue working. Road updates available at 511.alaska.gov/

Matanuska Susitna Borough will be accepting debris caused by the McKinley and Deshka Landing Fires at no cost at specific locations. For more information the Solid Waste Division can be reached at 907-861-7600 www.matsugov.us/recovery

Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) can assist with health and safety issues including air quality, drinking water, food safety and sanitation, wastewater, solid waste, and hazardous substances. Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) collects and distributes donations like clothes, shoes, winter gear, bedding, and food. They have locations in Big Lake, Wasilla, Talkeetna, and Willow. 907-745-5827
