South Alaska Smoke Outlook 8/31 – 9/1/19

Fire
Southcentral Alaska is being impacted by the smoke from wildfires in the surrounding area. A listing of activity for specific fires is available at: https://fire.ak.blm.gov/, AICC Situation Report.

Smoke
Susitna Valley: Smoke in the area will continue to decrease throughout the day with shifting winds and rain showers.

Anchorage Area: Air quality will continue to improve today with rain showers and increasing winds.

Kenai Peninsula: Cooper Landing’s air quality improved dramatically with the weather change. Expect mostly Good air quality to continue there today and tomorrow. Easterly winds will continue to push smoke produced by the Swan Lake fire to the western side of the Peninsula towards Sterling, Soldotna, and Kenai. Rain showers and decreased fire activity should help to moderate smoke impacts to these communities.
