The Fish Fire (#319) has been mapped by GPS on the ground at 295 acres tonight. The fire, which was started by lightning, received some rain this afternoon. This moderated much of the fire activity to smoldering and creeping.
The fire is burning on the west side of the Dalton Highway near milepost 116. Firefighters extinguished a spot fire on the east side of the highway. They continue to search the east side of the highway, looking for any additional heat.
A Nevada Type 3 team is expected to assume command of the fire. Two hotshot crews, two Type 6 engines and a water tender have also been ordered to reinforce the 12 smokejumpers and one helitack crew already assigned to the fire.

The plan is to use direct attack tactics tomorrow while fire behavior is still moderated by the precipitation received today. The intent is to reduce the fire’s duration and limit its impacts on the public.
The Bureau of Land Management Central Yukon Field Office has closed the Arctic Circle campground for public and firefighter safety. Campers are being directed to other Dalton Highway campgrounds, including Five Mile at milepost 60; Marion Creek at milepost 180; and Galbraith Lake Campground at milepost 275.
For more information about the emergency closure, contact the BLM Central Yukon Field Office at (907) 474-2200.
