The Slathtouka Fire is located about 18 miles southwest of Allakaket, AK. It started on July 3 and has burned roughly 4,200 acres east of Mount George.
Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 3 was assigned to the incident on July 4 and took command on July 8.
Currently the K River Crew and 6 smokejumpers are working to protect native allotments and structures in the vicinity of the fire, as well as culturally important areas. Work is happening south of the Koyukuk River and also along the Kanuti River to the east. Additional resources including a hotshot crew and a dedicated helicopter have been ordered.
