Division of Forestry & Fire Protection responding to new 75-Acre fire near Salcha River

Aerial resources responding to the 25-acre McCoy Creek Fire (#201) spotted smoke an estimated 10 miles to the Northeast. A reconnaissance flight found an approximated 15-acre fire burning in tundra and black spruce within a quarter mile of cabins.

Two helicopters working on the McCoy Creek Fire responded to the new, Deep Creek Fire (#229) and began performing water drops. Fire Bosses, smokejumpers, and an air tanker were additionally ordered and deployed to the fire that is now estimated to be at 75 acres.

Smokejumpers are on the ground and the air tanker and Fire Bosses are making repeated drops to protect the threatened structures at the Deep Creek Fire.

Division of Forestry & Fire Protection’s White Mountain firefighters remain working on structure protection on the McCoy Creek Fire. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were no visible flames, a 20% active perimeter, and that fire remains at 25 acres.
