Scattered showers and cooler temperatures continue to help moderate fire activity in the Interior, though not every fire has received precipitation from recent storms. An air quality advisory remains in effect for central and eastern Alaska. The northern Yukon fires have not seen much precipitation. Fire growth and smoke production in the region is expected to continue. The Brooks Range will see thick, low-level smoke as it trapped on the southern side of the mountains. A period of warming and drying is forecasted for the weekend and fire activity is anticipated to increase. There are currently 152 active fires: 52 in critical or full protection and 100 in limited management zones. 270,271 acres have burned statewide.
