The Idaho Team 1, Type 3 Incident Management Team out of the Great Basin Geographic Area took command of the five lightning-caused fires near the end of the Steese Highway at 7 a.m., Friday, June 28.

Minimal fire behavior continues to be observed over the Deception Pup and Flasco fires. Both fires have experienced zero growth over the last several days. Shading provided by thick smoke has hindered the fire to smoldering and has allowed firefighters to cut saw line and install hose lays to bring water directly to the fire. The hard work of fire crews on the ground and aviation support with retardant and water drops have protected the nearby communities of Center and Circle.

There is a total of 92 personnel assigned to the fires.

Deception Pup (#252) – Mop-up operations continue as additional crews and supplies arrive. The fire is located 3 miles west of Central and is mapped at 120 acres.

Flasco (#259) – Hand crews will relieve smokejumpers and continue mop up operations. This allows the smokejumpers to be available for potential new fire starts in Alaska. The fire is located south of Circle and was estimated at 7 acres.

American (#262) – Fire is burning approximately 15 miles northeast of Mount Prindle and about 20 miles north of mile 77 Steese Highway. It was estimated at 450 acres. It is burning in a limited management option area and will continue to be monitored.

Crazy (#153) – Fire is located in the West Crazy Mountains in the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge about 46 miles north of the Steese Highway. It is estimated at 347 acres. It is burning in a limited management option area and will continue to be monitored.

Ikheejik (#184) – Fire is located about 20 miles southeast of Circle east of Birch Creek. It is estimated at 35 acres. It is burning in a limited management option area and will continue to be monitored.
