Firefighters have made great progress toward full containment of the Deception Pup (90%) and Flasco (95%) fires. Local fire management worked with crews Sunday to assess the situation and plan for the return of command back to BLM Alaska Fire Service. Mop up operations will continue on both fires until full containment is reached and is expected sometime in the next several days.
Due to the treacherous landscape and the remoteness of the location of both fires, supplies and crews were flown in. This allowed for more efficiency and prevented injuries to firefighters as well. However, getting supplies and crews back out will take large logistical support.
There is a total of 78 personnel assigned to the fires.
