[UPDATED] Circle Bay Fire less active – Forest Service monitoring

[UPDATED Aug. 17, 2024 at 9 p.m. Alaska Time]

The Circle Bay Fire is less active today than it was yesterday. Winds are fairly calm and there has been minimal fire growth. The Forest Service is actively monitoring the fire and will continue to assess management options daily.

Right now the Forest Service is monitoring the Circle Bay Fire on a daily basis. Fire managers are making risk-based decisions when choosing how to manage the fire. The safety of our firefighters and the public are our top priority. Currently the power line that serves local communities is more than 2 miles away and not threatened. Our fire modeling shows very little spread over the next seven days and rain is in the extended forecast. The Forest Service has chosen to use a monitor approach and will re-evaluate as fire behavior changes. We have resources available in the unlikely event that values are threatened. Please stay out of the fire area due to hazards such as falling trees.
