Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) is responding to the Fish Creek Fire (#174) north of Kinross Gold Mine. Multiple thunderstorms moved through the area with frequent lightning Tuesday afternoon. A DOF engine on patrol in the area reported multiple smoke columns. After passing rains, one fire was discovered, and two smokejumpers were deployed to the fire to the .1-acre fire located about 2.25 miles east of Mile 25 Steese Highway. DOF Fairbanks #1 Type 2 Crew are hiking into the fire off of Fairbanks Creek Road. They will overnight to extinguish the fire and mop up hot spots.
There will be no more updates to this fire tonight.
