The Salcha River Fire (#197) and Marshall Mountain Fire (#193) have merged and are now being managed as the Marshall Mountain Fire (#193). The fire is estimated at 300 acres and continues to burn in black spruce with active flame fronts observed. The Fairbanks North Star Borough has issued a Level 1 “READY” status for River Mile 45–52 along the Salcha River.

A burned area from the 2022 Yukon Creek Fire lies south of the fire, between the active perimeter and the approximately 15 cabins along the Salcha River. At this time, no structures are threatened.
Fairbanks Helitack has identified and assessed the nearest cabin to the fire, which has defensible space, and continues reconnaissance and structure protection planning.
The fires were first reported on June 18, 2025. While en-route to the original Marshall Mountain Fire (#193), a reconnaissance helicopter discovered the Salcha River Fire (#197) burning in spruce and tundra. The fire exhibited an active perimeter and was affected by light southern winds. Fire managers note the potential for increased spread if sustained north winds develop and are continuing to monitor the situation.
