10:00 PM Fire Update: Fire activity on the Mile 128 Glenn Hwy Fire (#226) has moderated this evening as the fire has reached areas of higher fuel moisture and a decrease in nighttime temperatures due to the proximity of the vegetation to local wetlands and tributaries within the Nelchina River corridor. Two wildland fire engines from the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection will remain on the fire overnight monitoring the fire and preparing for suppression actions if the fire activity increases. All aviation resources have been released and sent to other areas throughout the state that are experiencing extreme fire danger and record setting high temperatures. The public may still see smoke from the fire along the Glenn Highway this evening and into tomorrow as areas of unburned fuel are consumed throughout the burning period.
This will be the last update for the night unless significant fire activity occurs.

Firefighters and aviation assets from Palmer and Glenallen are currently responding to a new initial attack 4 miles southeast of the Eureka Roadhouse on the Glenn Highway. The initial size up indicated that the fire was burning in black spruce and tundra and approximately 70-100 acres in size and exhibiting extreme fire behavior with short runs and spotting ahead of the main fire. The fire will be visible to the public traveling through the Glenn Highway corridor between mile markers 120-136. The fire is plotted in a modified response area and at this time poses no impact to structures or public in the area.
More information and future updates about the Glenn Highway Fire (#226) will be posted as they are received throughout the evening.
