Fire Activity Moderates Overnight on Bonanza Creek Fire. Readiness levels in place along Parks Highway

Overnight, the Bonanza Creek Fire (#238) that is located on the South of the Parks highway MP 332, saw some moderation in its activity, and it is currently estimated to be 540 acres, with the fire burning primarily concentrated on its southern side. Local water sources are being utilized to support helicopter bucket operations, aiding in the suppression efforts. Fire managers are actively prioritizing resources and have requested a Type 3 incident management team to take over command of the fire, while also working to map the best access routes for personnel. 

Multiple spot fires are present at the head of the main fire, exhibiting rapid growth towards the Parks Highway and Intertie. Although no structures are currently under immediate threat, there are local logging operations and timber sale areas in the vicinity.  

Motorists should be aware that the Parks Highway might see delays near MP 325-342. There are no current road closures in place.  

Fairbanks North Star Borough has evacuations in place for the Bonanza Creek Fire. The current evacuations are:  

🟢 Level 1 “READY”: Parks Highway MP 333-342 and MP 325-330.  

🟡 Level 2 “SET”: In effect for the following area: Parks Highway MP 330-333.  

The UAF Long Term ecological Summer Camp has been closed due to the fire. Please contact the site manager for more information, (907) 322-2846. 

The public is discouraged from entering the Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest.
