Increased fire activity on the Himalaya Road Fire (#223) has challenged dozer lines along the eastern edge and wind driven conditions have led the Fairbanks North Star Borough to upgrade evacuation levels in the fire area. Heavy equipment is being utilized to construct containment lines and forestry personnel have been performing tactical burning operations for point protection around structures. The fire is estimated to be approximately 3,320 acres at last report.
Alaska State Troopers assisted with evacuations of several neighborhoods in the area. Alaska DOT has been working with fire resources to ensure safe travel along the Elliott Highway between Haystack Drive and Milepost 20 where it has been impacted by the fire. Expect delays and travel with caution in the area as fire crews will be working near roadways and visibility will be compromised by smoke.

The Aggie Creek Fire (#268) is estimated to be approximately 922 acres at last report. The fire was active throughout the shift on Sunday, showing growth around the perimeter. Air and ground resources are being utilized to slow fire spread.
Containment lines on the Washington Creek Fire (#232) continue to hold the fire within it’s 20-acre footprint, personnel are patrolling the area.
Level 1 “READY, 2 “SET” and 3 “GO!” are all in effect for these fires. Please visit https://bit.ly/FNSBevac for the most current evacuation levels.
