Structure protection operations continue on Twelvemile Lake Fire

The Twelvemile Lake Fire (#220) is located outside of Delta Junction northeast of Twelvemile Lake. An Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered to assume command of the Twelvemile Lake, Lake George Fire (#224) and Sand Lake Fire (#292). Multiple cabins are at risk and firefighters continue to deploy pumps and sprinkler systems on structures around the lakes. The fire is estimated to be approximately 14,420 acres at last report. Fire crews are being shuttled into the fire area by helicopter and boat. Point protection for structures is ongoing. The Lake George Fire is currently estimated at 200 acres, hose lays for structure protection were completed during the last shift and tactical firing operations were utilized to remove fuels around cabins. Resources on the Sand Lake Fire, which is estimated at 2,856 acres, reported that mop up was complete around structures on Monday, June 23. Crews will continue to monitor the area.  

Ground and aerial resources are being supported by boating operations to deliver protection kits for structures. Please be aware of this increase in traffic on waterways and roadways in the area. Please use extreme caution as you travel around Twelvemile Lake, Healy Lake, Sand Lake and Lake George travel.  Remain alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
