The Twelvemile Lake Fire is burning approximately 37 miles southeast of Delta Junction. Today, Idaho Team 1, a type 3 incident management team, assumed command of both the Twelvemile Lake Fire (#220) and the Sand Lake Fire (#292).

Firefighters are accessing the fires using helicopters and boats and are actively conducting structure protection efforts for cabins along the lakeshores. The Twelvemile Lake Fire is estimated at 14,420 acres and the Sand Lake Fire is estimated at 2,856 acres.
Fire managers were able to conduct reconnaissance flights over both fires yesterday. Precipitation combined with lower temperatures and higher humidities, over both fires, has kept fire activity minimal. This will allow firefighters to gain direct access to critical fire locations as resources and supplies arrive.
Expect increased traffic on area roads and waterways. Use extreme caution when traveling near Twelvemile Lake, Healy Lake, Sand Lake, and Lake George. Stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
