The Northern New Mexico Incident Management Team is scheduled to take command of the Roundabout Complex tonight. Several of the positions on the team have been filled by fire personnel from Alaska. The complex is made up of six lightning-caused wildfires near Huslia and Hogatze.

Richards Fire (#251) – Smokejumpers and the Plumas Hotshots are securing control lines and mopping up around the fire. They are working 100 feet in from the perimeter of the fire to reinforce the line. The Nulato Hills Type 2 contract crew is scheduled to arrive today to assist with firefighting operations.
Caribou Fire (#128) – Four smokejumpers continue working to protect structures and other values at risk near Hogatza. Firefighters have identified locations where direct line might be built to protect areas of concern near a mine site. The Zigzag Hotshots from Oregon are scheduled to arrive today.
Moldy Fire (#279) – The fire is currently unstaffed. There has been minimal fire activity over the past few days. A reconnaissance flight on Tuesday helped firefighters identify locations for temporary helicopter landing zones. These “helispots” would be used to get firefighters and supplies into the area to work on the fire, which remains about eight miles southwest of Huslia.
The other fires in the complex have been placed in monitor status thanks to the hard work of firefighters.
Outside of the Roundabout Complex, smokejumpers continue to work on securing the southern edge of the New Cottonwood Fire (#325) to protect an Alaska Native allotment that is threatened. The fire is burning near Aniralik Lake in tundra and grass. It was started by lightning.
