The Georgia Forestry Commission Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) assumed command of the Nenana Ridge Complex on Wednesday, June 25. Scattered showers and high relative humidity brought low fire activity throughout the fire area, aiding firefighters in their suppression efforts.
The Bonanza Creek Fire (#238) is currently estimated at 2,165 acres. Multiple pieces of heavy equipment continue making progress installing fire breaks around the Bonanza Creek Fire, with an Oregon Type 2 hand crew patrolling the fire perimeter for hot spots.
The Goldstream Creek Fire (#270) is estimated at 4,265 acres. Multiple resources have been moved from the Bonanza Creek Fire to Goldstream Creek Fire. These resources are scouting the area to determine potential containment line opportunities.
With this weekend’s predicted hotter and drier conditions, firefighters will continue to protect structures and resources in and around the Bonanza Creek and Goldstream Creek Fires.
These fires have impacted roadways and rail lines in the area. Please travel with caution and watch for fire crews as smoke may impact visibility.
